Beschreibung
This collection presents new research on migration from the area of the former Yugoslavia. Overseas emigration before World War One, Gastarbeiter-migration after World War Two, post-socialist emigration, and forced migrations profoundly shaped the societies on this territory. The thirteen authors of the volume, eminent specialists from different disciplines, propose a new take on these phenomena and fill gaps in the existing scholarship. They discuss the effects of migrant networks and transnational links, migrant practices and experiences, the development of emigration policies and historical emigration processes. The contributions point to the complexities of migration and show how closely this region became integrated into global networks through emigration.
