Today, plant biotechnology has become entrenched as a branch of science, and biotechnology courses have been included not only at university but even at school level reflecting the importance of the subject. Recently biotechnology has been introduced in syllabus of most of the universities, at the graduate and/or post graduate level(s), either as a separate paper or a part of it. For the better understanding of the subject it is imperative that students should be facilitated to learn the elementary laboratory protocol on different aspects of plant biotechnology. With this end in view, authors have prepared the present book entitled, Laboratory Manual on Biotechnology. The authors have been teaching biotechnology and realizes the problems of students. Therefore, this book is compiled to provide the students, the current in formations of different areas of practical biotechnology. In this book, various protocols have been described in very simple manner and worksheets have been provided to record the observations etc. Exercises have been so arranged that they have become linked to each other for better understanding of the rationale to carry out the exercises. The manual deals with seven different parts. The language of the text is simple and the subject matter is fully illustrated. In this book each experiment includes introduction, principle, materials, procedure and calculations. In addition, there are 19 appendices which give minute details on basic chemistry, buffer preparations and other aspects required for the conduct of the experiments. The methods given in the book will be useful for conducting practical classes at the undergraduate and post graduate levels in biotechnology, biochemistry, microbiology, agricultural sciences, environmental science, botany, zoology, genetics and plant breeding, pharmaceutical science and other biology-related subjects. This book will be bonanza for the research workers.

Dr. R.S. Sengar the first author of Biotechnology manual has worked as Officer Incharge of the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry in College of Biotechnology of SVBP University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut and presently he is working as Associate Professor of Biotechnology of College of Agriculture in the University. Dr. Sengar has 16 years teaching, research and extension experience to his credit. He was associated with teaching for a period of about 10 years at G.B. Pant University of Agri.& Tech., Pantnagar (Uttarakhand). He has supervised 4 M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and published more than 38 research articles in Indian and Foreign Journals of repute. Dr. Sengar contributed 95 abstracts/papers to different conferences/symposiums/ workshops organized at National and International forums. He has published 780 popular articles in Hindi and English languages in important journals and magazines. He has also published 4 books for scientific community and farmers. Dr. Sengar has delivered more than 40 talks at All India Radio and Television at Delhi, Lucknow, Rampur and Bareilly stations.Dr. Sengar is life member of several professional societies. He is a member of the editorial advisory boards and review committees of few journals. He has been the Principal and Co-Investigator of few projects financed by various government departments.Dr. Sengar is recipient of the Best writer award from Vishwa Agro Marketing and Communication, Kota, Rajasthan; Kunwar Saxena Bahadur SRDA Award from Society for Recent Development in Agriculture; Meerut and Man of the Year& Research Board of Advisors Awards from American Biographical Institute, Inc. U.S.A.
Shalini Gupta, M.Sc., Ph.D. from G.B. Pant Agriculture University Pantnagar is presently working as Assistant Professor of Molecular Biology& Genetic Engineering, College of Biotechnology, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture& Technology, Meerut. She has a Teaching& Research experience of nearly 8 years. She is a good researcher and published more than 75 scientific papers/articles and review papers in different national& international journals/seminars of repute. She was honoured with the Young Fellow Award by the Society of Recent Development in Agriculture. Her areas of interest are Genetics, Molecular Biology& Molecular Breeding.
