William Clark Russell (1844-1911) served eight years as a sailor before he started his successful career in journalism and novel writing. He became well known for his nautical adventure novels, among which "The Wreck of the Grosvenor" was probably the most popular one. "The Lady Maud", originally published in 1896, is a thrilling novel about a vessel loss on one of the Bahama Cays.
