Die aktuellen Umbrüche im Gesundheitswesen haben tiefgreifende Folgen für die Pflegeberufe und die ihnen anvertrauten Menschen. Das Ausmaß, in dem sich der Kern pflegerischen Handelns, die Beziehung zu den Patienten, gegenwärtig verändert, wird jedoch erst in einer historischen Perspektive tatsächlich sichtbar. Die AutorInnen dieses Bandes finden unterschiedliche disziplinäre und methodische Zugänge zu den Transformationen sowohl der Pflegepraxis als auch der Rahmenbedingungen pflegerischen Handelns. Welche Folgen hat die Übertragung moderner Konzepte von Zweckrationalität und Verwaltungslogik auf das Feld sozialer Beziehungen und persönlicher Zuwendung? Die beträchtlichen Einbußen in der persönlichen Versorgungsqualität stimmen hochgradig nachdenklich. The current upheavals in healthcare have far-reaching consequences for the nursing professions and their clients. However, the extent to which the key aspect of nursing, namely the nurse-patient relationship, is currently changing, does not become apparent unless viewed from a long historical perspective. The authors of this volume discuss the transformation both in nursing practice and in the general conditions for health care from different disciplinary and methodological approaches. What are the consequences of transposing modern concepts of purposefulness and administrative logic onto the field of social relations and personal attention? The volume focuses on the fine structural changes made to care for the elderly, the sick and the distressed from the 19th to the 21st century. The contributions reveal, on balance, significant losses in the quality of personal care that urgently demand further consideration, and they endorse the need for a long-overdue debate on the elementary requirements of need-oriented care. This historical analysis of practical nursing relationships makes a valuable contribution to that end.>
